After following the KDE story since the early stages and relentlessly downloading beta after
beta the first public release is finally here and it's been well worth the wait. KDE is a window manager running on Xfree86 for the Linux Operating System. At first glance it looks like a normal Windows 95 Clone with the "start" button and "task bar" but a more in-depth look reveals a lot of features you won't find in windows. As with Windows your whole desktop is customizable for your personal preferences, and comes with a few programs , such as text editors, desktop games and such like. A nice application that comes with KDE is Kppp, which is a complete dial-up solution for your Linux system. Kppp has support for normal PPP authentication as well as the more frequent PAP authentication system and makes setting up a dial-up connection to your ISP a breeze. All in all KDE could be the best option for the ex-windows user who wants the power and stability of Linux, but the ease of use of the Windows system
